PCWA has welcomed the 2024 Federal Budget’s commitment to the following critical programs within the palliative care sector, including:

  • $24.9 million over two years from 2024–25 for the continuation of the Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care program to support states to deliver specialist palliative care services in residential aged care.
  • $10.8 million over two years from 2024–25 to extend the Palliative Aged Care Outcomes Program (PACOP) and the Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA) program to continue to upskill the aged care and primary care workforce to further embed palliative care capacity in the aged care workforce.

The palliative care sector will be working hard to ensure that gaps that exist in after-hours palliative care and care at home for people under 65 years, which weren’t addressed in the Budget, will be brought to the attention of the government moving forward.
