Palliative Care WA (PCWA) today announced that Chief Executive Officer Lenka Psar-McCabe will be retiring in 2026 after three years with the organisation.

Lenka has advised the Board of her decision to not seek a renewal of her contract so she can pursue other interests.

PCWA Board President Dr Elissa Campbell acknowledged Lenka’s significant contribution during her tenure and said plans were in place for a smooth leadership transition to a new CEO in early 2026.

“Lenka has been a driving force behind PCWA’s continued growth and influence for the palliative care sector,” Dr Campbell said.

“The Board is incredibly grateful for her dedication, integrity and passion and for ensuring the organisation is well-positioned for continued success with a service agreement with the WA Department of Health for the next five years and a number of other funded projects through partner organisations.

“We are very confident in our future. We have a solid foundation, a clear strategy, and an exceptional team. Our commitment to our members and our community remains our top priority.

“We will continue to deliver the same high-quality services and projects and uphold the strong relationships we’ve built.

“The Board is working to ensure a seamless leadership transition as we seek Lenka’s successor and will work with Lenka to ensure a smooth handover.”

Reflecting on her decision, Lenka said the time was right for a new chapter, both for her and for the organisation.

“I have really enjoyed working at PCWA and supporting the palliative care sector for the past almost three years,” Lenka said.

“All those working in the sector have been incredibly kind and willing to share their expertise with me and for that I am eternally grateful.

“PCWA will be in a very strong position for the coming years with secured funding from the Department of Health.”

Lenka said she wanted more time to do other things besides being committed to working.

“Even though work is a joy, I do need to make life changes, and my next steps are to build changes in habits so that I age well. I would like to volunteer a couple of days a week and then work on other interests,” she said.

“I remain very grateful for the opportunity to be the CEO of Palliative Care WA and for the amazing PCWA Board and team I have the pleasure to work with.”

The CEO role will be advertised on SEEK.
