Palliative Care Volunteering – Steering a course through grief and loss online workshop
August 14 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
What the workshop is about
Volunteers are essential, not only for our economy, but also for the influence they have on the well-being of people going through the toughest of times in their lives: life-limiting illness and end-of-life. Volunteering in palliative care is a tough, but also very rewarding gig. It has the potential to harm our wellbeing, affecting both our physical and mental health because we deal with overwhelming grief and loss as we support patients and their families. For our volunteering to be sustainable we need to understand grief and loss, our history of loss and the impact it has on us, and ways to navigate grief and loss in our caring role.
How the workshop will help you
The workshop will help you to:
- understand the various types of losses and their impact on self and others
- apply tools to help you better navigate your care role
- evaluate various options and apply strategies for work-life balance.
How the workshop will run
The workshop has been designed to allow participants to share, brainstorm and network with each other. Pre-reading or visual materials will be provided for participants to do BEFORE the workshop. The workshop will be delivered via Zoom and all details will be provided to participants once they register.
Cost
The cost of the workshop is $25 per person. If you are a volunteer with one of our member organisations your attendance will be free. See the list of current organisational members HERE.
