Live the life you please – film screening during National Palliative Care Week
Join us at the screening of ‘Live the life you please‘ during National Palliative Care Week 2023 at Event Cinemas in Innaloo on Wednesday 24 May at 6pm.
Australians like Julie and Allan will share their experiences in the film.
Julie was pregnant with her second child when her husband, Allan, was in a rugby accident that left him a quadriplegic.
Allan wanted to stay at home, so his community banded together to build a house that could accommodate his disability.
Allan’s friends and family would take him on outings, for a coffee or a beer; he never lost his cheeky personality and was still the life of the party.
However, Allan’s condition began declining, and he was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma. After researching his options and considering what he wanted the end of his life to look like, Allan elected to receive palliative care to manage his symptoms and continue to live life on his terms until the end.
When Allan died it was peaceful and without fear.
The film will be followed by a Q&A event with (MC) Sabena Lund – Community Education, Palliative Care WA, and panellists Jennifer Crossing – NODAC Coordinator Amana Living, Margaret Quirk – Member for Landsdale, Emily Hamilton – Member for Joondalup.
