WA Palliative Care Awards and induction of honorary life member 2019

Induction of Dr Douglas Bridge as a Honorary Life Member

A highlight of the 2019 Awards Ceremony was the induction of Dr Douglas Bridge as an honorary life member of Palliative Care WA.  Our President, Dr Elissa Campbell said “it was such a privilege to be able to present Doug with his honorary life membership”.

We would like to share with you Doug’s response to the comments on our Facebook post.  “I felt humbled by the honour shown to me, and the moving comments on Facebook. Reading each comment reminded me of the vast network of relationships which we build over a lifetime.  It strikes me that my role as a palliative care physician is summed up by the words in the first verse of that remarkable prayer by St Francis of Assisi Bringing hope, light and joy where there is despair, darkness and sadness. This shines a light on the path out of existential suffering.  And in the second verse It is in giving that we receive has been true of my whole life. I have repeatedly received more than I give. I am richly blessed.”
