National Palliative Care Week

National Palliative Care Week 2020 is almost here!

Providing an important opportunity to increase understanding and awareness of palliative care within our community, National Palliative Care Week this year is 24-30 May.

This year’s theme Palliative Care – It’s more than you think promotes the aim of palliative care, which is to help people with life-limiting illnesses to live as well as possible, for as long as possible by supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs. We also want to celebrate the professionalism and dedication of all those working and volunteering in palliative care.

COVID-19 may have curtailed some events such as our annual sector breakfast, however we do have some activities planned:

• Three online community forums Understanding Palliative Care on 26, 27 and 28 May.
• An online sector forum on 26 May where Professor Susan Kurrle will talk about about compassionate care in Residential Aged Care facilities, both before and during COVID-19.
• A social media campaign to bust some common myths about palliative care that we keep hearing in the community.

We encourage everyone in palliative care to get involved in National Palliative Care Week. There is a range of campaign resources available to download from Palliative Care Australia’s website that can help, including banners, logos and posters and social media assets like the one below.
