27th August 2018

Welcome to our latest e-News.  There has been a lot happening in the palliative care space over the last few months.  We are excited to be discussing the WA End of Life Choices Parliamentary Committee Report with the sector at our forum tomorrow.

At PCWA we have been busy over the last few months running Advance Care Planning community workshops that have been attended by nearly consumers across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.  We are also in the midst of reviewing the Palliative Caring consumer booklet.

One of our key objectives in 2018 was to develop an Advance Care Campaign to increase awareness and uptake of Advance Care Planning by consumers across Western Australia.  We are in the preliminary planning stages of this campaign with a planned rollout of April to June 2019 – watch this space!

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to attend a Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care session at the WA Parliament.  It was wonderful to listen to psychiatrist Dr Lisa Miller talk about the quality care she provides people at end of life  It gave me a great opportunity to discuss the importance of Advance Care Planning with around 20 of our politicians, many of whom are showing great interest in running community workshops within their electorate.

Finally, I would like to thank the organisations and individuals who have recently renewed their membership with PCWA.  Your funds help us to continue to operate as a peak body and ensure access to palliative care for all Western Australians.
If you haven’t already renewed your membership we encourage you to do so.  Renew online or for more information contact our Business Development Officer Vicky Barry (vicki.barry@palliativecarewa.asn.au or phone 1300 551 704).
