Thank you to everyone who attended this week’s AGM and Sector Consultation. It was wonderful to see such a high turnout of members and key stakeholders, particularly given the extremely hot weather.

Following the elections process we are pleased to confirm the re-election of ten Board Members and welcome three new members – Simon Towler, an Intensive Care Staff Specialist at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Tish Morrison Director of Palliative and End of Life Care at Silver Chain, and Margherita Nicoletti from the Department of Health. Dr Elissa Campbell was re-elected as President, Shannon Calvert re-elected as Vice President and Hiren Mehta re-elected as Treasurer.  The full Board is:

  • Elissa Campbell, President
  • Shannon Calvert, Vice President
  • Hiren Mehta, Treasurer
  • Yasmin Naglazas, Secretary
  • Samar Aoun, Member
  • Zoe Clarke, Member
  • Carmel Markham, Member
  • Tish Morrison, Member
  • Margherita Nicoletti, Member
  • Moira O’Connor, Member
  • Simon Towler, Member
  • Desmond Williams, Member

At the AGM we sadly farewelled David Smeeton, a much loved and respected member of the Board of Palliative Care WA.  David joined the Board in 2015 and has been a consistent and strong advocate since day one. One of Palliative Care WA’s strategic priorities is with the community and David helped us to keep this focus firmly in place.  He could always be relied upon to ask whether we were helping to meet the needs of the community.  His enthusiastic demeanour, personable approach and passion for the delivery of quality palliative care for all has been contagious. David is a highly skilled but very humble man and we thank him for the huge contribution he has made to Palliative Care WA.

We also presented our latest Annual Report as well as the Financial Report 2018-19 at the AGM.

Our sector consultation held following the AGM was simply outstanding. It was excellent to have such diversity in the room with many sectors and professions represented, ensuring a variety of points of view were heard.  We were extremely pleased with the level of engagement, the ideas that flowed and the enthusiasm shown from all participants. Thank you to everyone involved for your time, energy and expertise.

We are currently preparing a summary document that will be circulated to participants, and will ultimately help to shape our own strategic planning process early next year.
