Working with the sector
As a peak body we provide an independent and collective voice for palliative care, always working to ensure quality services for all Western Australians with palliative care needs.
We contribute to Federal, State and Local Government policy reviews, forums and committees on areas related to palliative care and end of life. When invited, we also appear before government committees to provide further information and recommendations.
Our CEO, Board President and other Board members serve on a range of state and national palliative care committees, panels and reviews. This includes Palliative Care Australia’s National Policy Advisory Committee which produces regular national position statements.
CEO Roundtable for Palliative Care in WA
We facilitate the CEO Roundtable for Palliative Care in WA. Meeting twice a year, this group provides high level advice to State and Federal Government on palliative care issues in WA. The Roundtable provides opportunities for key stakeholders to engage in robust discussion and debate while maintaining strong and purposeful relationships between the sector and the WA Health Minister. Membership to the CEO Roundtable on Palliative Care in WA is by invitation. Recent Communiques from the meetings are available here:
- Communique – March 2025

We encourage and facilitate service commitment, best practice, professional development and sector-wide collaborations. Our aim is to strengthen the sector as a whole, to benefit those working within the sector, and ultimately, the WA community.
Fostering excellence
To recognise excellence and showcase the achievements of organisations, teams and individuals providing quality palliative care in WA, we run the biennial Palliative Care in WA Awards.
We also advocate the importance of palliative care education and training for everyone who cares for people at the end of life, and support delivery of care consistent with Palliative Care Australia’s National Palliative Care Standards.
Sector events
We provide opportunities for networking and professional development at a range of sector-wide events throughout the year. These include:
- Online and in-person events featuring local, interstate and international presenters.
- National Palliative Care Week breakfast featuring guest speakers.
- Gala dinner at which we present the Palliative Care WA awards.
- Biennial palliative care summit.
See Reports and publications for key documents related to our sector-wide events.
Collaborations
We contribute to the development of the palliative care sector by establishing and maintaining collaborative committees as needed. One such collaboration is the Advance Care Planning WA Agency Consortium, which is committed to increasing the number of Western Australians undertaking advance care planning.
Consultations
To ensure we reflect a diverse range of views, needs and issues, we consult widely across the palliative care, aged care and community services sectors when preparing submissions and policy papers and when developing our own strategic priorities.
