Advance Care Planning Workshop with Professor Charlie Corke

  • Monday 23 May 2022
  • Morning tea from 9:30am
  • Workshop 10am – 12pm
  • Lightning Park Recreation Centre, 30 Della Road, Noranda

Palliative Care WA is delighted to be running a very special Advance Care Planning community workshop presented by Professor Charlie Corke.

We all want to have a say in what happens in the last part of our lives. By making plans that cover your future care, lifestyle, health and finances, you’re not only working out what you want, you are also making things easier for those around you. This process is called Advance Care Planning.

We are honoured to be hosting Professor Charlie Corke who will also be speaking at our Satellite Breakfast for National Palliative Care Week. He is a highly regarded and very engaging speaker with strong expertise in all aspects of advance care planning. Most unfortunately due to a recent back injury Professor Charlie Corke is unable to fly to Perth. His presentation will be on a large screen and he will still be able to interact with the audience and answer your questions.

Reflecting the WA model for Advance Care Planning, this free workshop will cover:

  • How to ensure that you have a voice when you can’t speak for yourself,
  • Identify, consider and communicate your wishes about the medical treatment you would want in the later stages of life,
  • Create your own values profile in relation to life, death and medical treatment,
  • Considering how words matter, and how to express your wishes in ways that make sense to medical staff, and
  • How to express yourself effectively in WA advance care planning documents.

This practical and informative workshop is supported by the Office of Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, Member for Morley. It is open to all members of the WA community regardless of age or health conditions.

Registrations for this free event are essential and must be made on Eventbrite.  Please make sure you register for each person attending.

A strong advocate of patient centred care he is the originator of the Australia-wide MyValues approach to advance care planning. The health and wellbeing of our members, stakeholders, staff and the wider community remain a priority for Palliative Care WA, and we are committed to the WA Government’s policies and public health directives.

Given the high number of new daily cases of COVID-19 currently being reported and taking on board recent advice from medical specialists, we STRONGLY RECOMMENDthat everyone wear a mask when not eating, drinking or presenting. Our staff will be wearing masks, and we will have some on hand for those who require one.

Please do not attend this event if you are feeling unwell or have developed any cold or flu-like symptoms.
